Foolishness

Well it certainy has been awhile since writing anything or thinking of what to put. Easter will soon be coming in a week or so, but I'm not talking about Easter just yet.

April 1st almost everybody knows it's the day of fools or mostly know as April fools day. I'm not entirely sure why it was invented other than to play pranks on your fellow neighbours, friend, family, co-workers ect. It can be quite funny iof a day if you pull proper and decent pranks.

Basically the idea is to fool someone with the prank you have set up hoping that person or group would fall for it and are I guess a fool for giving in. Or if they don't fall for the prank by a certain time which is often before said to be before noon then you become the fool yourself.

Most of it is all fun and games, I guess it's like national joke day or something. I guess Wikipidia can tell you something about April Fools Day alittle more than I can if you can pick out what and why there is a day like that.

Did you know that there are many other ways people can be foolish? not all foolishness is fun and games. If you look up the word fool, foolishness in the bible there's so many verses that talk about fools or foolish acts. Proverbs gives alot of different reffrences, often comparing to people that are wise and those that are fools.

For instance:

Proverbs 12.22-24

22 The Lord detests lying lips,
    but he delights in those who tell the truth.
23 The wise don’t make a show of their knowledge,
    but fools broadcast their foolishness.
24 Work hard and become a leader;
    be lazy and become a slave.

Proverbs 15:1-3

1 A gentle answer deflects anger,
    but harsh words make tempers flare.
2 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing,
    but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.
3 The Lord is watching everywhere,
    keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.

Proverbs 15:20-22

20 Sensible children bring joy to their father;
    foolish children despise their mother.
21 Foolishness brings joy to those with no sense;
    a sensible person stays on the right path.
22 Plans go wrong for lack of advice;
    many advisers bring success.

Those ar just a few from Proverbs, oviously ther's afew more out there, but I think I'll post the book or else we'll be here all day!! There's afew more other verses that talk about foolishness are in other places in the bible like:

Ecclesiastes 2:12-14

12 So I decided to compare wisdom with foolishness and madness (for who can do this better than I, the king?[a]). 13 I thought, “Wisdom is better than foolishness, just as light is better than darkness. 14 For the wise can see where they are going, but fools walk in the dark.” Yet I saw that the wise and the foolish share the same fate.

Ecclesiastes 7:24-26

24 Wisdom is always distant and difficult to find. 25 I searched everywhere, determined to find wisdom and to understand the reason for things. I was determined to prove to myself that wickedness is stupid and that foolishness is madness.

26 I discovered that a seductive woman[a] is a trap more bitter than death. Her passion is a snare, and her soft hands are chains. Those who are pleasing to God will escape her, but sinners will be caught in her snare.

Jeramiah 8:8-10

8 “‘How can you say, “We are wise because we have the word of the Lord,”
    when your teachers have twisted it by writing lies?
9 These wise teachers will fall
    into the trap of their own foolishness,
for they have rejected the word of the Lord.
    Are they so wise after all?
10 I will give their wives to others
    and their farms to strangers.
From the least to the greatest,
    their lives are ruled by greed.
Yes, even my prophets and priests are like that.
    They are all frauds.

1 Timothy 6:20-21

20 Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge. 21 Some people have wandered from the faith by following such foolishness.

May God’s grace be with you all.

As we can see just afew examples Biblegateway has given us we see they point to some foolish things that some people have done. Most times there can be consequences for foolish actions. There's times I've made some foolish choices in life and paid the price for it. I also know some people that made some foolish choices how they go about things or simply just being fools themselves what they choose to think about people. Simply their foolishness and even something people don't always catch right away is pride as well has led to a trail of hurt and division.

The question to think about is April Fools Day a bad thing?

I think it's not a bad thing as most pranks are just innoccent fun. Hurting someone or causing trouble that will create dispair is not a prank and not done in good nature.

  1. Good thoughts girl. True stuff. There is a big difference between acting foolish and being a fool like you said. I think the thing that separates the two is how you live your life. If you do foolish things every now and then (and you really shouldn't), I think that you're just acting foolish. A fooling person continuously does hurtful things and just doesn't care.

    Thanks for your thoughts, encouragement and for sharing the verses as well!

    • no problem, indeed. Fools have a tendency not to care, but only when they want to I guess if they’re being punished. They don’t relised others that they are hurting in the midst of their folly(s). Having wisdom is a person’s better choice for things. I think we need to try to becareful and if we can pay attention so we can look out for foolishness from a person if we can catch it in time. Sometimes we can miss it and then we get bitten at times.

      Thanks for your comments that you post. It’s encouraging to read as well!
